This is how genuine local participation is created.
Local Climate Change Action #1 Makes Your City Greener
Every tree is a natural air conditioner, a CO₂ sink, and a habitat all in one. They are true climate heroes with superpowers. That’s why green shade providers, protectors of biodiversity and soil, are especially important in areas with dense development and a lot of sealed surfaces.
However, planning urban greenery is complex and subject to many regulations. The city of Meiningen therefore successfully relies on the help of its citizens to make the city greener. Anyone who collects 45 Klima-Taler can pick up a fruit tree for their own garden at the citizen’s office. Since such attractive rewards have been introduced, even more CO₂ is being saved to collect Klima-Taler.

Local Climate Change Action #2 Promotes Public Transportation
Hop on, save CO₂, collect Klima-Taler, and earn free rides. And just like that, the positive climate protection cycle starts all over again. It’s that simple to integrate public transportation—as a major CO₂ saver—into the Klima-Taler app:
Several options are available for public transport providers to accept payment with Klima-Taler:
1. Redeem voucher codes in the public transport app
In the Klima-Taler marketplace, citizens can purchase voucher codes from the public transport provider using Klima-Taler. These codes can be entered into a “promo field” when buying a ticket in the provider’s app, reducing the purchase price accordingly.
2. Generate voucher codes with a QR code
In the Klima-Taler marketplace, voucher codes from the public transport provider are sold in exchange for Klima-Taler. These are displayed as QR codes on the buyer’s phone. When scanned by the reader on the bus, the free ride is validated.
3. Klima-Taler for Season Tickets
When purchasing a monthly pass at the service center, a QR code associated with an offer is scanned. The purchase of the discount is clearly displayed on the buyer’s screen. A timestamp additionally validates its authenticity. The customer then receives the pre-determined discount on the season ticket.
4. Scan the QR code on the bus or at the stop
A clearly visible QR code is placed on public transport buses or at the stops. Users of the Klima-Taler app can simply scan the code before boarding, and Klima-Taler are automatically credited for the ride. For example, this could provide one hour of travel entitlement, displayed on the smartphone. An expiration animation and a timestamp ensure the offer is secure against fraud.
3. Local Climate Change Action #3 for Enjoying Free Cultural Activities

Whether it’s a museum, concert hall, theater, or cinema—cultural institutions are also integrated as climate partners in the Klima-Taler app. At the ticket counter, a “We Take Part” poster is displayed, clearly showing the individual QR code of the venue. Visitors scan this code and pay with Klima-Taler, receiving a discount or free entry in return. The offer description, poster, and QR code are provided to the cultural institution by Changers through the Klima-Partner portal.
Special feature:
The venue can link free tickets to days when events are not sold out, helping to fill rows. This also provides socially disadvantaged groups in the city with access to cultural participation.
Museums and theaters can also start with their own team and, via an iFrame data interface, display the climate protection contributions of their visitors on their own website. Anonymous evaluations of mobility “to and from” the venue are also possible.
By offering an initiative in the Klima-Taler app, the venue gains an additional communication channel to a valuable, climate-conscious target audience. Its own program can be announced and prominently communicated. Push notifications, as reminders or alerts about available tickets, can be sent directly to participating citizens.
Participation in the Klima-Taler network is also a clear commitment to an open, inclusive, and future-oriented society.
Using Klima-Taler in your own marketing is free—and it supports all those in your community who actively work to protect our natural resources.
At the same time, communication through our network provides a conscious alternative to platforms known for racist and xenophobic content—marking a first step toward responsible public outreach.
Local Climate Change Action #4 Activates with a Family Trip to the Public Pool

A visit to the public pool with the whole family can be expensive. Why not pay with Klima-Taler? Visitors scan the QR code, which is clearly displayed at the ticket counter, and pay for admission or receive a discount using Klima-Taler. The municipality decides on the exact arrangement. The discount or entry entitlement is displayed on the smartphone.
Important to know: More and more municipalities are using automated access systems. In this case, a ticket is purchased online, which is then presented as a QR code to a scanner at the entrance. The scanner reads the code, validates the entry, and opens the gate. Operators can select this form of voucher issuance in their account at admin.klima-taler.com.
Local Climate Change Action #5 Motivates with Exciting Raffles
Experience shows that raffles are particularly motivating for sticking with saving CO₂ and are a great local climate change initiative. The city awards prizes, which can include tickets of any kind, a city tour, a picnic in the botanical garden, public transport monthly passes, and more. Users purchase raffle tickets with their Klima-Taler. Those who save more CO₂ can buy more tickets and increase their chances of winning a prize.
The raffle is communicated in the app so that everyone can follow along. The drawing and announcement of winners are carried out automatically by the app on the date chosen by the city.
Important to know: The raffle feature is currently only available in Klima-Taler White Label versions.
Local Climate Change Action #6 Inspires with Music
Those who actively contribute to municipal climate protection can request their favorite song. For example, for 5 Klima-Taler (25 kg CO₂ saved), their chosen track is played on the radio.
Here’s how it works: individual voucher codes are provided by the radio station and listed in the app’s rewards marketplace. Users purchase the codes with their Klima-Taler and send the code along with the title of their requested song to the station via email.

Local Climate Change Action #8: Fund Social Projects
A locally active foundation, the municipal utilities, or even the city savings bank can, for example, serve as donation partners for this initiative. They provide the funding for the respective social project. The donation partners present themselves and the project in the app’s marketplace so that as many people as possible learn about and get involved in the donation campaign. Participants exchange their Klima-Taler to trigger a donation.
If a donation partner is already working with Particulate, their donation coupons can simply be exchanged for Klima-Taler in the marketplace. No additional effort is required. The partner’s donation engagement becomes automatically more visible through the Klima-Taler app and is additionally linked to climate protection.
Local Climate Change Action #9: Implement the Municipality’s Mandatory Tasks
For climate protection in cities, there is not only the optional part, but also tasks that we consider mandatory for the protection of citizens. For example, effective heat protection plans. Here too, the Klima-Taler is used as support. On one hand, it provides important tips for protecting oneself from heat. On the other hand, it offers the Climate Treasure Map, where each participating municipality can mark climate-relevant locations, such as recycling centers, e-charging stations, or public water fountains.
The Klima-Taler app provides space for many creative climate change change actions that can be customized individually. Each municipality has the opportunity to engage its citizens through gamification. There are no limits to creativity people to save CO₂.
